introduction to the gallery

The Don Roderick Gallery is an important part of the famous Stock Exchange, owned by the National Trust of Qld. A mecca for locals and visitors who arrive here every year to take in the sights and sounds of a bustling yet historic city. Famous for its beef industry, educational centres and mining industry— it still qualifies for its original title of “The World”.

Don Roderick, Architect, recognized the historical importance of the Stock Exchange building in regard to Charters Towers and its heritage as a mining town. He was the driving force in restoring the building in the 1970’s, and so the gallery was named in his honour.

A visit to the Don Roderick Gallery will not only give you a taste of the creativity of the Charters Towers people but a look at a unique heritage listed Hessian lined gallery and architecture of the era. Take a walk up the stairs and take a step back in time, as you wander over the bridge-way that connects the unique double roomed gallery with the added benefit of a great view of the Stock Exchange and main street.
